Earth Day

    CEC member groups will once again participate in the 1998 Earth Day Festival sponsored by Enron and produced by KRBE. The event will be held on Saturday, April 4, at Buffalo Bayou Park from Noon to 7 pm. All member groups wishing to have a free booth, contact Chris Caudell Sagstetter at (713) 520-1985.

    The event will feature an afternoon of live music, as well as more than 25 exhibits about environmental matters.

    In addition to the festival, the Earth Day Planning Committee, sponsored by CEC, will celebrate Earth Month, with many events scheduled. These include:

    Gordon Durnil Lectures

    Gordon Durnil, author of Reflections of a Conservative Environmentalist featured in last month's Exchange, will give a lecture on April 3 at the National Association of Environmental Law Societies Conference, produced by the Thurgood Marshal School of Law. Durnil is a lawyer, author, and politician who was named by President George Bush as the United States Chair of the International Joint Commission on the Great Lakes. During that time, he became a fervent environmentalist. His message: "As others promote the technical aspects of environmental problems, or the emotional, my efforts have been aimed at finding common ground on which to conduct a serious by civil debate - with some success."
