CEC Notes
Delegate Luncheon
Twelve people attended the November delegate luncheon. Emboldened by boxed lunches from Butera's, delegates decided to continue to meet bimonthly through 1998 and to add a short program, beginning in January. Bob Randall's September suggestion that hosting the luncheon be rotated among the member groups was revisited. It was proposed that an occasional luncheon be held elsewhere but that a regular rotation would be impractical. Community Gardens will be invited to host one luncheon in 1998, at a site of their choosing.
The board and staff of the CEC and the following member organizations were represented on
November 12: American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Citizens Who Care,
Galveston-Houston Association for Smog Prevention, Houston Arboretum and Nature Center,
Houston Homeowners Association, International Center for the Solution of Environmental
Problems, and the Sierra Club.
Mark your calendars now for 1998: January 14, March 11, May 13, July 15, September 9, and
November 11. All dates fall on Wednesday.
Earth Day Committee
A CEC Earth Day/Earth Month working committee met for the first time just before
Thanksgiving, with good attendance. Chris Caudill (Sagstetter) has volunteered to chair
the committee again this year. Details are only roughed out, however it appears that the
CEC will go forward with a two pronged plan for Earth Month, involving both a luncheon
speaker series and a festival, again in cooperation with KRBE and Enron. To keep up to
date, call Chris at (713) 721-9130 (evenings).
Leaning Left
Beginning January 28, CEC board member Jane Elioseff will help team teach a new seminar through Leisure Learning called "Leaning Left." Don Hill, Ben Levy, and Henry Macredy will be joining her in the classroom. The biweekly seminar will explore the past, present, and future of radical and progressive ideas in the United States. Stewardship of the environment will be given a prominent place in the discussion. For more information, call Jane at (713) 528-3779.
