NATIONAL Contrails and Climate Change The condensation clouds that trail jet airplanes, known as contrails, have a significant affect on temperature, according to a study that was conducted during the days after September 11 that commercial planes were grounded. During those three days, the variations in high and low temperatures increased by 2°F each day. Although the temperature fluctuation is significant, it is not known what effects contrails my have on global climate change.
