After a three-year hiatus, The Progressive Forum is back! Join the resistance at this important event on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. located at Congregation Emanuel El, 1500 Sunset Blvd., Houston, TX 77005. Anthony Romero is the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the nation’s premier defender of civil liberties. Warning that President Trump’s proposals would amount to a “one-man constitutional crisis,” Romero and the ACLU have led the resistance, achieving the first legal victory by winning a nationwide stay of Trump’s Muslim ban just over 24 hours after it was issued. Romero has served as executive director for 16 years, and is the first Latino and openly gay person in this position. Time magazine named him among the 25 most influential Hispanics in America. He has led the most successful growth in ACLU history, enabling him to expand the ACLU’s national litigation, lobbying, and public education efforts. Since the Trump election, membership has more than doubled to over one million. Born in New York City, Romero was the first in his family to graduate from high school. He is a graduate of Stanford Law School and Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public Policy and International Affairs. He is co-author of In Defense of Our America: The Fight for Civil Liberties in the Age of Terror (2007). He will sign books and greet fans at the end of the evening. To purchase tickets, please visit
