The AD will learn all aspects of GCBO operations, including developing and implementing short-and long-range avian conservation objectives, raising capital and operating funds, and providing leadership and management to fellow staff working to accomplish these objectives. Working alongside the Executive Director, the AD will serve as a key representative for GCBO efforts, promoting its programs and working with current and future partners and important constituents to carry out its Mission: To protect birds and their habitats around the Gulf of Mexico. The AD is expected to cultivate cooperative working partnerships with the GCBO staff, volunteers, members, corporations, educational institutions, government and private agencies and other conservation partners, and must have the people skills and diplomacy necessary to be an effective fundraiser and leader. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary is recruiting a qualified candidate to coordinate the collection of long term monitoring data for East and West Flower Garden Banks and Stetson Bank, and to perform subsequent analysis, data management, interpretation, synthesis, and report writing of long term monitoring reports and presentations.</p>
<p>This is a full time position, located in Galveston, Texas.  East and West Flower Garden Banks are located approximately 100 miles south of the Texas/Louisiana border, in the Gulf of Mexico. Stetson Bank is located approximately 30 miles NW of West Flower Garden Bank. <p>Candidates will be assessed on the following criteria:</p>
<ol>
<li>Ability to SCUBA dive and use underwater camera systems.</li>
<li>Knowledge of field operations from ship based platforms using SCUBA and ROV&#8217;s, including organization of personnel &amp; equipment for multi-day, multi-disciplinary offshore research cruise missions to collect oceanographic and biological data.</li>
<li>Knowledge of coral reef ecosystems, including fish and coral identification.</li>
<li>Skill in spatial and statistical analysis specific for assessment of coral reef ecosystems, database development, organization, and maintenance.</li>
<li>Specific knowledge in the use and application of ESRI software packages including ArcView ArcGIS, Spatial Analyst and 3-D Analyst</li>
<li>Skill in oral and written communication of technical and scientific information to a variety of audiences.</li>
<li>Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Indesign, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft PowerPoint, IPhoto, IMovie, IDVD, or equivalent graphics and video programs.</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Bayou Preservation Association (BPA) seeks a full-time Bayou Preservation Program Director to develop and manage programs to monitor and improve water quality in Houston area bayous and waterways. The position requires a challenging mix of scientific, management and advocacy skills. Responsibilities include assessing and monitoring all issues relevant to water quality, establishing and maintaining communication with the public and private sector persons and institutions interested in water quality, and facilitating public education about bayous. The position requires excellent communication skills and includes preparation of written reports and presentations concerning the water quality program for the BPA Board of Directors and Executive Committee, for governmental organizations, BPA partners, and grassroot groups. The ideal candidate will be a confident and motivated self-starter with a strong personal commitment to the cause of preserving and enhancing the health of Houston&#8217;s bayous, to the BPA and to broader goals and values of environmental protection. Program Director will report to and work closely with Executive Director. BPA is a local non-profit organization that has a long and successful history of preserving and improving Houston area bayous. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Assist with management of Houston Audubon Sanctuaries on the Upper Texas Coast. Control exotic plant species by cutting, pulling, mowing and herbicide application. Erect sanctuary signs, post boundaries, maintain fences, pick up trash, and perform other tasks as necessary. Interact with sanctuary visitors. Bird censusing and nest monitoring may be included. Use all tools and equipment in a safety conscious manner at all times.</p>
<p>$10 / Hour (20-hour week). Travel expenses between sanctuaries reimbursed.</p>
<p>Excellent physical condition. Ability to perform hard physical work for extended and irregular periods, under adverse conditions and in all extremes of weather. Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of machinery. Experience with chainsaws and other power tools. Ability to work with a wide variety of people and to work independently of supervisor. Enthusiasm for working outdoors. Personal vehicle necessary.</p>
<p>College coursework in natural or biological sciences.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Greater Houston Clean Cities Coalition was selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to host an intern this summer. The coalition is seeking an intern to assist with the following primary tasks:</p>
<ul>
<li>Event planning and support for the 2010 Advancing the Choice Conference</li>
<li>Creating and implementing a <em>comprehensive regional</em> survey of vehicle fleets and alternative fuel usage</li>
<li>Coalition website development to incorporate more interactive features, such as member-only sections, video clips, webinars, etc.</li>
</ul>
<p>The internship is open to undergraduates (junior or senior only) and graduate students and will take place June 1-August 13, 2010. Compensation in the total amount of $7,000 will be provided in three monthly installments through funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and the American Society for Engineering Education. Students studying in fields as diverse as communications, business, marketing, policy, engineering, and environmental science are welcome to apply.
