Champion Lake Earth Day Event

In commemoration of Earth Day 2012, Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge
along with the Friends of Trinity River Refuge, will host an afternoon of
outdoor activities at the Champion Lake Public Use Area. The fun-filled
afternoon is on Saturday, April 21 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. Activities
will include refuge boat tours, canoeing, kayaking, bird and butterfly
viewing, walking the levee trail, dip netting and fishing lessons in the
lake for the kids, and a “Wildlife Experience.” Champion Lake is located
at the end of CR 417, two miles east of FM 1409 in southern Liberty County.
This is approximately 10 miles south of Dayton, TX from Hwy 90 or about six
miles north of I-10 at the Cove exit (FM 565). Admission is free. Call
the refuge office at 936/336-9786 for more information. You may want to
bring a lawn chair as seating is limited.

The Houston Zoo’s Earth Day celebration is fun for the whole family. Explore the Houston Zoo on a self-guided Earth Day Scavenger Hunt to learn more about some of the endangered species that call the Zoo home and enjoy our “green themed” activities. After completing the Scavenger Hunt make sure to pick up your prize (while supplies last).
While you’re here you can also test your green knowledge as you make environmentally-smart choices and find your way to the end of the Mother Earth Maze. Put your skill and imagination to work at the Re-Usable Mural, and see how fast you are when you Race to Recycle! Earth Day Concert in Sugar Land

Sugar Land, TX ­- Do a little dance and boogie on down to Sugar Land’s Concerts in the Park every Sunday, April 15 through May 13, from 5-7 p.m., at Oyster Creek Park, 4033 State Highway 6 South. The final concert will be held on May 20 at Eldridge Park, 2511 Eldridge Road. The series will present a variety of themes and musical genres, and each concert will include several family-oriented activities and other entertainment.

Children’s activities will include a caricature artist, funny clown performances, magic acts and tattoo spray station. In addition, each Sunday will include various interactive activities such as a petting zoo, a mechanical bull, a rock wall, craft areas, sample massages, a Catch the Moment photo station or a classic car showcase. There will also be walk-around performers such as a rope trick artist, Ben the Recycle Man, giant puppets or an Elvis impersonator to coincide with the theme of each event. Concerts in the Park will also celebrate well known local events such as Jackson Pollock at the Park on April 29 and Lemonade Day Houston on May 6.

Onsite refreshments will be available for purchase from the First Colony Lions Club.
