2018 ASHRAE Annual Conference (Save the Date) @ George R. Brown Convention Center

The 2018 ASHRAE Annual Conference will be held in Houston, June 23–27, 2018. The Technical Program along with Committee meetings, Registration, Bookstore, and Speakers Lounge will be held at the Hilton America’s hotel and the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Outreach Teacher Workshop @ WG Jones State Forest Texas A&M Forest Service

Outreach Teacher Workshops are six (6) hour hands-on trainings that introduce attendees to the Texas Wildlife Association, in-class and outdoor L.A.N.D.S. Outreach lessons and activities, and how to incorporate natural resources into classrooms or programming.  Lessons focus on teaching land stewardship, native wildlife, and water conservation and are TEKS-aligned.  This workshop is ideal for educators grades K-8 (ages 5-14) and is completely FREE!  All educators who attend and complete the workshop will receive six (6) CPE hours.

Artist Boat is working with NOAA to provide an educator workshop to help you better understand climate change and ocean acidification, and their impacts on our Gulf of Mexico, and provide resources to help you convey this information to your audiences.

This Professional Development Program is sponsored by NOAA Planet Stewards Education ProjectNOAA Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, and Artist Boat.

Professional Development Workshop

What: Environmental Impacts to the Gulf Coast: What do we know, What can we do?

Who: Formal and informal educators of middle and high school students.

When: June 25-28th, 2018. Approximately 9am-5pm daily.

Where: Carbide Park – Galveston County Extension Office – Texas Sea Grant; 4102 Main St., La Marque, TX 77568

Price: $50 per registrant, lunch included daily and Monday night dinner at Moody Gardens.

Credit: 28-32 CPE hours, depending on final agenda

Daily Field Trips: Moody Gardens Aquarium to explore the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary Exhibit, National Weather Service, Artist Boat’s Coastal Heritage Preserve for Eco-Art Kayak Adventure, and a tour of Port Houston aboard the MV Sam Houston.

Focus on Forests for Ag and Environmental Science Educators @ Bugscuffle Inn

Focus on Forests is a three-day high-energy program. Our home base will be the lovely Bugscuffle Inn, near Cushing, Texas. Meals will be provided from Wednesday lunch through Friday lunch.

What to Expect

  • Get an overview of Texas’ forest industry by touring managed forests, an active timber harvest operation, forest product manufacturing facilities, and a seedling nursery
  • Evening sessions, taught by professional foresters, will focus on measurement skills, tree and wood identification, silvicultural operations, and forest management methods
  • Receive training in Project Learning Tree’s Focus on Forests secondary module with resources for teaching about forest health, fire, invasive species, and more
  • 18 hours SBEC CPE credit and 18 hours TEEAC credit
