Abandoned Crab Trap Removal

February 20, 2016 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm America/Chicago Timezone
Fort Anahuac Park
Anahuac, TX 77514

Abandoned or lost crab traps have been a signiicant source of mortality for a variety of organisms. They also create pollution and can lead to costly repairs for boaters and shermen whose motors come in contact with the traps. To address this issue, the Texas Legislature passed the Abandoned Crab Trap Removal Program in 2001. Since 2002, volunteers statewide have removed 31,237 abandoned traps from Texas waters. Join us
to learn about this program and how GBF helps with this effort.

Volunteers on land will help unload and smash traps, and volunteers on the water will help pull traps from the bay. Volunteers of all ages are welcome.

Airboats and shallow-draft bay boats are needed for this event to be successful. Please consider volunteering your vessel for this event!
