Blackwood Nature Camp (five nights) @ Blackwood Educational Land Institute
Jun 25 all-day

During this week-long experience, kids from 8 to 14 enjoy a range of outdoor activities, including nature crafts, adventure games, exploring, swimming, farming, nature journaling, dreaming, storytelling, hiking, and more. The campers will go on field trips, like visiting a wolf sanctuary or exploring a TWPD local lake; and hear from outside experts, like Texas Park and Wildlife fishermen and biologists, who will teach the campers about the natural world.

Camp dates:
Summer Session 1: June 25 – 30, 2017
Summer Session 2: July 2 – 7, 2017
Summer Session 3: July 9 – 14, 2017
Summer Session 4: July 16 – 21, 2017
Summer Session 5: July 23 – 28, 2017 (Middle School Grades only, No CITs)

Camp Little Feet and Camp Little Green Feet @ Blackwood Educational Land Institute

Blackwood LandThis fall, Blackwood Educational Land Institute is excited to offer Camp Little Feet and Camp Little Green Feet. These two camps introduce younger children to Sustainable Agriculture in an intensive and interactive way, and encourage families to cook together more often.

Camp Little Feet is an overnight camp for 5-7 year-olds and their caregivers, hosted on October 7, 2017, at 3:00 PM until October 8  2017, at 11:00 AM. The cost for one child and one caregiver pair is $149.

Camp Little Greet Feet is a day camp for 3-5 year-olds and their caregivers, hosted on Saturday, November 4, 2017, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The cost for one child and one caregiver pair is $89.

November 18 – A Morning with Karen Man

Karen is an entrepreneur, author, and baker that co-founded Oxheart Restaurant and Public Services Bar. She currently serves as OKRA Charity Saloon’s Administrative Director where they are on pace to reach $1 million dollars donated this fall and is finishing up her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Pralaya Yoga Studio in Houston. When she isn’t spending time in a kitchen, she enjoys hiking, reading under the trees at Menil Park, and taking ceramics classes.

December 16 – Introduction to Composting with Rebecca Verm

Introduction to Composting will explore the fundamental principles of composting, the purpose of compost in your garden, and how to set up a compost system that is right for your garden. We will cover methods such as sheet composting, tumblers, vermicompost, black fly compost, bokashi, and windrow composting.

March 3, 2018 – Basics of Successful Vegetable Gardening with Rebecca Verm

Introduction to the basics of growing vegetables in the Gulf Coast region. Some of the topics covered include growing seasons, climate, best-growing methods & mediums, and specific crop recommendations. We will explore each of these principles, and how they are implemented, in Blackwood’s Kitchen Garden. Students will leave empowered to begin their own backyard garden successfully.
