Educators Earth Day at the Coastal Heritage Preserve
Apr 22 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Educators Earth Day at the Coastal Heritage Preserve @ Galveston | Texas | United States

West Bay is part of the Galveston Bay system, an estuary of national significance. The Coastal Heritage Preserve project area is one of the largest unfragmented, single-owner, undeveloped properties of its kind on Galveston Island. Located roughly midway along the length of Galveston Island, the Coastal Heritage Preserve project is a critical piece in the West Bay Corridor Initiative, a multi-agency program to protect and restore critical habitats around West Bay. These efforts have included land acquisition projects and restoration projects on the bay side of Galveston Island, stretching from Sweetwater Lake to near San Luis Pass, on the mainland from Virginia Point to Chocolate Bay, and including islands in West Bay. In addition, the project area was identified as a high priority for conservation in the West Galveston Island Greenprint. Click here to see the flyer.

Apr 27 @ 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
Bio Blitz at the Coastal Heritage Preserve @ Galveston | Texas | United States

Join us at the Coastal Heritage Preserve on April 27th from 8am-12pm as we conduct a BioBlitz to update our species inventory! On the day of the BioBlitz, you will be assigned an area within the Preserve to identify as many species as possible. You will be grouped with other experts in other disciplines, so that you can focus only on the species group with which you are most familiar. We are looking to document as many species as possible within our various habitat types, therefore we are requesting the assistance from botanists, herpetologists, entomologists, mammalogists, ichthyologists, ornithologists, naturalists etc. Please RSVP to Kristen Simmons, Habitat and Stewardship Coordinator, at habitat@artistboat.org.
