Bike Around the Bay 2017 @ Royal Purple Raceway
Oct 21 – Oct 22 all-day
Bike Around the Bay 2017 @ Royal Purple Raceway | Baytown | Texas | United States

Join the Galveston Bay Foundation for their 11th annual Bike Around the Bay, a two-day 170-mile fully supported ride around Galveston Bay. This unique cycling event takes riders in a complete loop around the largest estuary in Texas (and one of the biggest in North America)! All proceeds from this signature fundraising ride directly benefit GBF and its mission to preserve and protect the Bay.

All cyclists of all skill levels are welcome. Riders are given the option to complete the entire two-day route from Baytown to Galveston and back or one day only. Pick whichever option works for you. The route is fully supported with SAG wagons and frequent breakpoints along the route that provide drinks, snacks, bike mechanics and first aid.

New this year to Bike Around the Bay is the opportunity to participate in a 45-minute yoga and stretching session at the finish of day 1. Participants will focus on static yoga stretches to help open and increase flexibility. After riding 96.3 miles, this session will allow your body to recover and will help enhance performance for day 2 and prevent injuries. It’s free, so remember to RSVP at checkout.

Register today to ride in Bike Around the Bay 2017 on Saturday-Sunday, October 21-22, 2017. If you can’t come out and bike, please consider making a generous donation to help them reach their goal!

H-GAC’s Bringing Back Main Street Roundtable @ Angelton Recreation Center
Oct 24 @ 9:30 am – 12:00 pm

We’d like to invite you to learn more about how communities throughout the Houston-Galveston region are revitalizing their downtowns at H-GAC’s Bringing Back Main Street: Revitalization Roundtable on Tuesday, October 24.

During this roundtable, the Texas Historical Commission will present ways they support local downtown commercial districts and their small business tenants.

Emily Koller will talk about DowntownTX.org, a new tool from the commission that showcases downtown real estate and acts as a data clearinghouse for Main Street programs, economic development coordinators, chambers of commerce, and others.

Not only will you hear about exciting innovative programs, there will be an opportunity to network with others working to improve our region’s downtowns.

H-GAC’s Regional Recycling Roundtable – Recycling Center Field Trip @ H-GAC, Lobby on the First Floor
Nov 8 @ 8:45 am – 1:00 pm

As landfill space and raw materials become scarcer, recycling of used materials becomes a more cost-effective and sensible option. Periodically the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) hosts workshops to bring new ideas and knowledge to local governments on a wide range of recycling-related topics.

We will travel by bus from H-GAC to two Waste Management Materials Recovery Facilities:

  • Houston Gasmer Drive Single Stream MRF: 4939 Gasmer Drive, Houston, 77035
  • Houston Clay Road Traditional MRF: 9590 Clay Road, Houston, TX 77080

Please arrive at H-GAC by 8:45 a.m. We will meet in the lobby on the first floor. The bus will leave H-GAC promptly at 9:00 a.m. and return by 1:00 p.m.

Registration is required for this roundtable field trip as space is limited on the bus and at the facilities.
