Religion vs. Science: What Religious People Really Think @ Fondren Library, 4th Floor Kyle Morrow Room at Rice University
Jan 30 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Join authors Elaine Howard Ecklund and Christopher P. Scheitle for the release of their book, Religion vs. Science: What Religious People Really Think (Oxford University Press 2017) for an event sponsored by the Religion and Public Life Program with support from the Program in Jewish Studies at Rice University.

Religion vs. Science is based on a five-year study of religious Americans’ views of science, called the Religious Understandings of Science (RUS) study. The RUS study surveyed 10,000 Americans about their views on the relationship between religion and science, as well as specific scientific issues such as stem cell research, evolution and creation, science education, and others. The survey was in addition to more than 300 in-person interviews.  Pastor Lee Hsia of Houston’s First Baptist Church and Rabbi Geoff Mitelman of Sinai and Synapses will moderate the conversation and provide unique perspectives on the book’s content.

RSVP required and will be announced on the website shortly prior to the event.

Walk for The Woods Project 2018

Length: Estimated 3 miles

Where: Scenic route that winds through East End neighborhood and along beautiful Buffalo Bayou

What: Learn more about Houston’s East End, meet our students and volunteers and support The Woods Project

This estimated 5K walk will take you on a journey through Houston’s historic East End, where many of The Woods Project’s students live and play. It is the biggest fundraiser of the year for The Woods Project and promises to be a great morning of community, history and fun!The scenic route includes stops along a beautiful undeveloped area of Buffalo Bayou, where walkers will learn about the efforts to clean up the bayou.

Additionally, what makes this Walk very unique are the history stops found throughout the route, such as Firehouse #2. Walkers are encouraged to visit history stops to learn about important people and places in the area and the role they have played in shaping Houston.

The Walk is a great opportunity to meet The Woods Project’s students. Join us to celebrate our students and see the historic East End!

The event will be fun for the whole family with plenty of family-friendly activities and entertainment happening during and after the walk. However, please be advised that due to local restrictions, glass containers, any animals including dogs, roller skates, skateboards, or bikes are not allowed at the event.
