Want to have fun and help people?! Come out and join the party: The Cranksgiving party!
Cranksgiving HTX is a scavenger hunt and food drive on bikes. The event started in New York and is now a nationwide pre-Thanksgiving tradition. We’ve done it in Houston for three years, and this year, we want to make it bigger and better!
HOW IT WORKS
- Cranksgiving HTZ is a free event, where teams of 2 will scavenge for pre-selected items at predetermined grocery stores.
- Each participant will be handed a manifest containing the list and point values for the items to be retrieved within the 2 hours allotted time.
- Paniers, messenger bags, or backpacks are a must.
- Receipts will be used to tally up the points.
- There will also be a required roadblock stop where participants perform some fun feat before continuing.
- Group with the most # of riders
- Most Generous
- Heaviest Haul
- Fastest Team
The scavenger hunt participation is free but expects purchases between $12-$15 per participant. You are welcome to be as generous as possible. Everyone wins just by participating!
If you want to join us for the food drive and festivities, just show up! If you can, please bring some non-perishables from your pantry. All items will be donated to a non-profit organization. (Organization TBA)
BikeHouston Advisory Board Member Michael Skelly leads a slower, educational ride on the first Sunday of every month departing from Market Square (by NikoNiko’s) at 8 am (unless otherwise stated). This is a no drop ride designed to show riders where they can ride on Houston’s Bayous. It is usually 60 percent on paved surfaces.
Pace and Duration
Moderate, with stops to discuss how Houston is evolving and what is coming, for 2-3 hours.
Fatter tires are highly recommended, but some folks can tough it out on road bikes.
Remember to bring a helmet, water, and spare tubes.

Held on the “2nd Saturdays” of each month, we will enjoy a delicious vegan potluck and meeting, along with a discussion, film screening, food demo or speaker presentation on intersectional issues of veganism, animal rights, environmentalism, nonviolence, health and more. Each month will be something new! Our new venue is at the HCC Conference Center.
We are asking for a donation of $5 per person to help cover our facility rental expenses. All attendees must bring a vegan entree to share at the potluck (serving size to feed 10 people)!
There will be VSOP logo items available as part of our fundraising efforts. We always have plenty of FREE vegan literature, animal rights & environmental awareness literature, and starter guides for the vegan-curious, too!
Please remember to bring a vegan dish to share with the group! Our events are always vegan, so please only vegan or raw vegan foods (no animal-derived ingredients). If you have questions on ingredients, feel free to contact us.
We have plenty of seating at our new venue. All ages welcome! (Families are invited to bring toys and games for their young ones. Children must not be left unattended.)
Help us also keep our events earth-friendly by bringing your own reusable dinnerware and plates.
This is a great way to meet up with Vegan Society of P.E.A.C.E. each month and learn about our volunteer opportunities, upcoming events and outreach! Houston’s Premier vegan nonprofit was founded in 2004 and is run entirely by volunteers!
We will also feature a new discussion topic on intersectional issues each month, such as: animal rights, ethical vegan living, vegan health & nutrition, cooking, world hunger solutions, eco-friendly living, nonviolence and more! Some months will also include film screenings and/or guest speakers and food demos.
