AIA Houston Home Tour @ Various locations

Open to the public, the AIA Houston Home Tour showcases the finest residential architecture in the Houston area, as designed by licensed architects. Houses are chosen to showcase a variety of design styles demonstrating that excellence in design is not limited by size or dollars.

The home tour is a nonprofit fundraiser and supports various AIA Houston initiatives throughout the year.

 

Canoe, Creek, and Commissioner Paddle with Bayou Land Conservancy @ Jones Nature Center

Kick-off the cooler weather with this smooth paddle up Spring Creek to the beautiful white sand beach where Spring Creek and Cypress Creek meet. Join Harris County Commissioner Pct. 4 Jack Cagle for this fun trip down the beautiful Spring Creek Greenway. Meeting point is at Jones Nature Center (20634 Kenswick Dr, Humble, TX 77338) at 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 21, 2017. We will have a good number of canoes and tandem kayaks available, but you can also bring your own (if bringing your own, please arrive no later than 3:45 PM to offload your boat at the launch site). Registration is required. Canoe, Creek, and Commissioner Paddle will fill up, so make your reservations soon!

H-GAC’s Regional Recycling Roundtable – Recycling Center Field Trip @ H-GAC, Lobby on the First Floor

As landfill space and raw materials become scarcer, recycling of used materials becomes a more cost-effective and sensible option. Periodically the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) hosts workshops to bring new ideas and knowledge to local governments on a wide range of recycling-related topics.

We will travel by bus from H-GAC to two Waste Management Materials Recovery Facilities:

  • Houston Gasmer Drive Single Stream MRF: 4939 Gasmer Drive, Houston, 77035
  • Houston Clay Road Traditional MRF: 9590 Clay Road, Houston, TX 77080

Please arrive at H-GAC by 8:45 a.m. We will meet in the lobby on the first floor. The bus will leave H-GAC promptly at 9:00 a.m. and return by 1:00 p.m. 

Registration is required for this roundtable field trip as space is limited on the bus and at the facilities.

The Swamp Thing Gala – Bayou Land Conservancy Benefit @ Southwestern Energy Headquarters

Come join Bayou Land Conservancy on November 11, 2017, as they celebrate another successful year of conserving land along our bayous, creeks and streams at their “Swamp Thing Gala.” You might even learn some fun facts about wetlands and all the critters and plants that live there. Share a night of inspiration with co-workers, clients, friends and nature lovers. Who knows, you could catch a glimpse of the mysterious “swamp thing”! The event will be held at the beautiful Southwestern Energy Headquarters, a 26-acre property located adjacent to the Spring Creek Greenway just off I-45. The grounds are planted with native plants and grasses that are irrigated with water from the nearby retention ponds. The sites serves as an excellent example of environmentally friendly actions that we can all employ.
