Stormwater Wetland Program Volunteer Opportunity

The Texas Coastal Watershed Program holds weekly volunteer days for their stormwater wetland program, 9am-12pm on Thursdays. Volunteers help propagate plants in the wetland plant nursery at Exploration Green in Clear Lake City, or at the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory in Lake Jackson.  The stormwater wetland program is developing demonstration projects to show  how wetlands can be designed into flood control basins to clean contaminants from surface runoff,  protect our bayous and bays, and provide a refuge for wildlife. Need a few credits before the end of the year? We are hosting three (3) exciting presentations in one day!  One program at lunchtime and two evening presentations back-to-back.  At lunchtime, we will explore the Greenguard certification process -presented by Cambria.

Special guest include Glenn Garry, Communications Manager from the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners, presenting a CEU on everything you need to know about keeping up your yearly registration, the do’s and don’ts, and ample time for Q&A! Follow by a presentation on “Designing with Mushroom(s) Material Technology” presented by Gunlocke – a great and challenging subject learn about it!  Don’t sweat, we will have some lite bites & beverages for all attendees.

AIA’s 3rd Ward Bicycle Tour @ HCC "Central Campus" Sign

Houston Community College, Emancipation Park, Project Row Houses, Texas Southern University and more! This tour will look at the neighborhood’s character, history, and future in the center of Houston.

Attendees need to bring their own bicycle. We encourage everyone to wear a helmet. If you do not have your own bicycle, you can rent a bike from Houston B-Cycle. Nearest stations are located at Holman & Main (HCC/Ensemble Metro Station) or Holman & Live Oak (Project Row Houses).

This tour will meet in front of the Houston Community College “Central Campus” sign at 1300 Holman Street.

AIA’s Montrose Walking Tour @ Menil Collection Bookstore

Montrose is one of the most diverse and interesting neighborhoods in Houston with some of the city’s best architecture including spectacular mansions, charming bungalows, the campus of the University of St. Thomas, Rothko Chapel, and the Menil Collection. ArCH tour guides will present an overview of the architectural and social history of the area and offer guests a look inside of the Fondren Mansion (now La Colombe d’Or), Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Chapel of St. Basil, Rothko Chapel, Cy Twombly Gallery, and the Menil Collection. On this 2-hour walking tour you will get a flavor of this special district and be encouraged to widen your path after the tour is over.
