Technical Advisory Committee Meeting @ Houston-Galveston Area Council

Technical Advisory CommitteeThe Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) reviews and evaluates H-GAC’s regional transportation plans and provides its recommendations to the TPC. The TAC is an appointed body, which is comprised of representatives of member governments and special citizen interest groups with expertise in transportation planning. TAC members are appointed by the TPC to assist with the coordination of the Transportation Improvement Program, Metropolitan Transportation Plan and other transportation planning activities.

The agenda for each meeting can be found at www.h-gac.com/taq.

TAC meets on the third Wednesday of every month. Meetings are held the second floor of H-GAC’s office located at: 3555 Timmons Ln, Suite 120, Houston, TX 77027. Dates are subject to change, so please contact H-GAC with any questions.

Houston Audubon in partnership with the Baytown Nature Center is leading a monthly count at the Baytown Nature Center. David Hanson is the leader. The survey is usually conducted on the third Thursday of each month, September through May, and results are posted on eBird. The survey normally begins at 8 AM. The PNA Subcommittee (of the Natural Resources Advisory Committee) serves as a forum for discussion of issues related to parks and natural areas, promotes the PNA Award Program, and maintains a regional inventory of parks. The PNA subcommittee facilitates information exchange and planning efforts between various stakeholders and collaborators to protect and preserve parks and natural areas across the region.

Come out for the next meeting of the Houston-Galveston Area Council Parks and Natural Areas Subcommittee from 1:30 to 3:30 PM on Monday, October 23, 2017, at H-GAC Conference Room A, Second Floor. During this meeting they will discuss judges’ scores for the 2017 PNA Awards. H-GAC’s Bringing Back Main Street Roundtable @ Angelton Recreation Center

We’d like to invite you to learn more about how communities throughout the Houston-Galveston region are revitalizing their downtowns at H-GAC’s Bringing Back Main Street: Revitalization Roundtable on Tuesday, October 24.

During this roundtable, the Texas Historical Commission will present ways they support local downtown commercial districts and their small business tenants.

Emily Koller will talk about DowntownTX.org, a new tool from the commission that showcases downtown real estate and acts as a data clearinghouse for Main Street programs, economic development coordinators, chambers of commerce, and others.

Not only will you hear about exciting innovative programs, there will be an opportunity to network with others working to improve our region’s downtowns.

CWI: Better Public Engagement Practices @ Houston-Galveston Area Council

Public engagement is by definition a two-way process, involving interaction and listening, with the goal of generating mutual benefit between two or more groups. Most public entities conduct some form of public engagement regularly to better inform their internal processes and to meet federal, state and local requirements. But how can those entities and others in the region better engage in meaningful interactions with their constituents?

Join H-GAC for another Clean Waters Initiative workshop on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Houston-Galveston Area Council, Conference Rooms B and C (second floor) to learn more about public engagement efforts in the region and how you can apply successful techniques to your own projects.

Speakers from the Galveston Bay FoundationArtist Boat, and the Texas A&M – Texas Coastal Watershed Program will provide participants with an overview of the mechanisms they have used to engage partners, stakeholders, and the public. Speakers will highlight which efforts have been successful, providing “lessons learned” to help attendees better engage in their respective communities.

Transportation Policy Council Meeting @ Houston-Galveston Area Council

About the Transportation Policy Council (TPC)The Transportation Policy Council (TPC) provides policy guidance and overall coordination of the transportation planning activities within the region. The TPC consists of 28 members representing cities and counties, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) one at-large member appointed by the H-GAC Board of Directors representing cities with a population greater than 50,000, and one voting member position for representation from the Gulf Coast Rail District.

Meetings are held on the fourth Friday of each month EXCEPT for December to avoid conflicting with the Christmas holidays.  All meetings will be held in Conference Room A on the second floor. H-GAC’s office located at: 3555 Timmons Ln, Houston, TX 77027.

H-GAC’s Bacteria Implementation Group Fall Meeting @ H-GAC Conference Room B, Second Floor

The Bacteria Implementation Group (BIG) is a thirty-one-member committee that has developed and is overseeing implementation of a plan, or I-Plan, to remedy high levels of bacteria in waterways identified inTotal Maximum Daily Load projects in the Houston Region. Activities of the BIG are open to all interested parties, and people are encouraged to attend meetings and participate in the various water quality issues pertinent to the I-Plan. The I-Plan is a common-sense approach for reducing bacteria levels in our waterways and providing better services to citizens. However, for the plan to work, we need your help. With everyone pitching in together, we will reduce bacteria levels in our waterways.

The agenda will include a review of the BIG’s 2017 Annual Report, updates to total maximum daily load projects, and planning for implementation in 2018.
Scheduled presentations include:
  • Satelytics will discuss use of satellite remote sensing imagery to perform environmental monitoring
  • Texas Department of Transportation will discuss their recent Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality
