TWA’s Youth Videoconference – ASI: Animal Skull Investigation @ Online event

TWA’s Youth Videoconferencing is:

  • Free, interactive, curriculum-enhancing, natural resource programs
  • Designed for Grades 1-6, TEKS-aligned K-8
  • 45 minute programs (includes student Q&A)
  • TEKS aligned post activities and worksheets
  • Includes four (4) issues of TWA’s mini-magazine Critter Connections!

 

ASI: Animal Skull Investigation

This interactive presentation allows students the opportunity to investigate skulls of native Texas animals. Unique adaptations will be discussed and students will be asked to identify common structures of animal skulls and then determine their function(s). During the investigations, students will discover the feeding habits, survival adaptations, and finally the identity of our mystery specimens.

 

Registration closes one week prior to program date.  Each program time has 4 Interactive and 50 Non-interactive spots available.

Take Care of Texas Video Contest Deadline

Upcoming Deadline

The Take Care of Texas Video Contest is a fun way for young people to learn about protecting the environment and come up with creative ways to share this knowledge with others! Students film a 30-second video that shows positive ways to Take Care of Texas. The students that submit the best videos can win great prizes, awarded by the contest sponsor, Waste Management of Texas, Inc.

Voting will take place from January 11 to January 25, 2018.

Transportation Policy Council Meeting @ Houston-Galveston Area Council

About the Transportation Policy Council (TPC)The Transportation Policy Council (TPC) provides policy guidance and overall coordination of the transportation planning activities within the region. The TPC consists of 28 members representing cities and counties, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) one at-large member appointed by the H-GAC Board of Directors representing cities with a population greater than 50,000, and one voting member position for representation from the Gulf Coast Rail District.

Meetings are held on the fourth Friday of each month EXCEPT for December to avoid conflicting with the Christmas holidays.  All meetings will be held in Conference Room A on the second floor. H-GAC’s office located at: 3555 Timmons Ln, Houston, TX 77027.

Meeting dates are subject to change, so please contact H-GAC with any questions or confirmation.

The public has an opportunity to pick their favorite videos January 11 through 25, 2018. A panel of TCEQ staff and representatives from Waste Management Texas will choose the first, second, and third place winners from each of the grade groups. Winners will be announced February 20, 2018.

River, Lakes, Bays ‘N Bayou 2018 Trash Bash

Every year, thousands of volunteers gather along Texas waterways to do their part in cleaning up the environment by participating in the largest, single-day waterway cleanup in the state of Texas, the River, Lakes, Bays ‘N Bayous Trash Bash®.

​In 2018, Trash Bash will celebrate its 25th consecutive cleanup, an accomplishment that dedicated volunteers should be proud of. If you’d like to join in on the fun and do a lot of good for your community, check out which site you’d like to volunteer at and have a waiver signed before the day of the event so you can register.
