“We Back the Bay” program allows students and teachers in the counties surrounding Galveston Bay to create learning legacies on their school campus that will improve the water quality of Galveston Bay. The program will build awareness of the causes and consequences of poor water quality in Galveston Bay, develop critical thinking skills necessary to mitigate pollution of the Bay, and create action to increase water conservation and reduce storm run-off from school campuses. Participants will learn how SmartWater landscapes not only improve water quality of the bay but may reduce flooding from heavy rainfall events.
If you are accepted into “We Back the Bay” you/your campus will receive the following for FREE:
• 3 Days of Professional Development for 2-3 teachers/campus
• Artist Boat Eco-Art Workshop (5, 2-hour workshops for 125 students/campus)
• Artist Boat Eco-Art Adventure (5, 4-hour adventures for 125 students/campus)
• $4,549 Mini-Grant for each campus to build a WaterSmart Landscape on their campus
Five schools will be accepted into the program based on applications submitted by teachers.
Application Deadline: March 19th, 2018
