Roy Lee Schultz Bridge Cleanup

Posted on Tuesday 25 October 2011

Title: Roy Lee Schultz Bridge Cleanup
Location: Roy Lee Schultz Bridge
Link out: Click here
Description: Kingwood Kayak & Canoe Rentals is seeking volunteers to help remove log jams, trash, and debris from under the Roy Lee Schultz Bridge. This is the bridge that connects Kingwood and Atascocita over Lake Houston via West Lake Houston Parkway. The cleanup is scheduled for two Saturdays, November 5 and November 12, from 6 am – 6 pm. Due to the large amounts of trees and log jams located underneath, we have decided to devote the first Saturday, November 5 to nothing but log jam removal.
The second Saturday, November 12 will be devoted to the remaining trash and other
debris.

The cleanup is supported by the Texas Waterway Cleanup Program (a partnership
between Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The program assists community organizations, scout and youth groups, schools, local governments, businesses, and concerned citizens across the state as they host inland freshwater area cleanups and environmental education activities. The TWCP has generously donated trash bags, and a few litter grabbers, gloves, and masks for the cleanup, but this will barely be enough to get the job done. Some of the things we need are a crane to pick up debris, a dump truck, a method of disposal, all-terrain vehicles, chainsaws, bow saws, wheelbarrows, heavy duty wagons, shovels, metal rakes, litter grabbers, gloves, goggles, masks, food, water, and snacks for the volunteers, and someone on standby to administer first aid in case of emergency.

This is a great opportunity for scouts, sports teams, clubs, social groups, area
businesses, and individuals to get involved in the local community to improve water
quality, restore natural beauty, and reduce potential threats to human health and
wildlife. You may not be able to physically volunteer, but you may be able to
donate or loan an item or tool that is needed on the list. You may be able to work
only 2 hours or 12 hours. If you’re not able to do anything but put out flyers or
forward this email to at least 10 people in your area of influence, then please do
that. Any gesture is doing your part and is much appreciated.

If you would like to volunteer your time or services, donate food, water, or snacks, loan a tool or equipment, please contact Denise at kingwoodkayakandcanoe@yahoo.com or call directly at (281) 736-3203.
