The quarterly summer meeting of the
Environmental Educators’ Exchange (EEE) will take place on:

5:30 PM to 7:30 PM

We will meet in the Upper Kirby Room, the main meeting space on the first floor, closest to Richmond Ave.

Our host will be EEE member organization, Houston Tomorrow.

Also, Marya Fowler, the returning Education Director for the Austin office of National Wildlife Federation will join us to discuss her new role in NWF education programs in the Houston-area including the upcoming Summit.

We look forward to building awareness about the fact that all of Houston’s citizens benefit from our city’s parks.

This year we will honor the Quality of Life Coalition on the occasion of its tenth anniversary. Like the Houston Parks Board, the Coalition is dedicated to improving the natural environment in our city so that we will all have a healthier place to live and work.

Description: House Bill (HB) 3 and Senate Bill (SB) 3, 80th Legislature, 2007, require the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to adopt by rule appropriate environmental flow standards for each river basin and bay system in the state. The adoption schedule, as amended, requires environmental flow standards for the river and bay systems consisting of the Sabine and NechesRivers and SabineLakeBay, and the Trinity and San JacintoRivers and GalvestonBay to be adopted by June 1, 2011.

To comply with HB 3/SB 3, TCEQ staff is proposing the creation of new 30 Texas Administrative Code Chapter 298, Environmental Flows, Subchapter A, Sabine and NechesRivers and SabineLakeBay; and Subchapter B, Trinity and San JacintoRivers and GalvestonBay.

TCEQ is holding a rule stakeholder meeting to obtain input from the public on the rulemaking required by HB 3/SB 3.

The rule stakeholder meeting will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., at TCEQ’s Offices at 12100 Park 35 Circle, Building E, Room 201, Austin, Texas. If you are unable to attend the scheduled meeting, please submit your written comments no later than August 13, 2010, to Ron Ellis, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, P.O. The event is sponsored by Houston Audubon, the Nature Discovery Center, and Whole Foods Market.

Description: Visitors of all ages are invited to enjoy an afternoon of fishing, building sand castles, and playing games on the beach at Jones Park. After the sun sets, take a look at some of the stars and planets through a telescope, roast marshmallows around the campfire, and see what’s buzzing about as park staff use various sampling methods to survey nocturnal insect life. Reservations are required and may be made beginning Wednesday, August 4.

Description: TxDOT created a Rail Division in 2009 which is working now to develop a comprehensive State Rail Plan to improve our state’s rail network. Next week, TxDOT will hold public outreach meetings across the state to present an overview of the project and solicit public comments to aid in development of the plan.
