Assist the Stewardship Department with implementation of the ABNC Natural Resource Management Plan. The focus of this position is prairie restoration through invasive species removal and operation of a bat-wing mower. Technicians will gain experience in plant identification plant propagation, and wetland restoration. Technicians will also assist with supervision of volunteer work crews. Two part-time positions are available, each to begin early June 2010 and ending in late August 2010 (start and end dates are flexible). Housing is not provided. Description: Communities have a responsibility to reduce, reuse and recycle solid waste in a way that is both environmentally- and economically-conscious. This workshop focuses on ways to dispose of disaster-generated debris while simultaneously reducing your environmental footprint.

The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) invites you and your colleagues to the fourth of a series of Debris Management Planning workshops. Topic: Best Practices to Properly Dispose of Disaster Debris, with speakers Mark Rose and Chuck Rivette. Agenda items include end markets for disaster debris and disposing of special wastes.

There is no charge for this event. Registration is required on-line.

H-GAC encourages participation from private industry in this series, however, the primary audience is local governments. Available space for attendees is limited. Description: The 2010 Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-off will be held Saturday, April 10.

The Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off is the single largest one day cleanup event in the state and serves as Texas’ signature event for the Great American Cleanup, the nation’s largest community improvement program, held annually from March 1 through May 31.

In 2009, more than 25,200 bags of trash were collected, totaling more than 158 tons of waste.

The Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off is part of the partnership between Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation. Participants can receive trash bags, volunteer giveaways, promotional items, and more.

Description: Take a leisurely hike along the first mile of the Barton Creek Greenbelt (two miles round trip). Learn about important proposals concerning this area including the Walk for a Day regional trail and the Zilker Loop Trail systems.

The destination is the scenic Campbell’s Hole, a quaint historic pebble beach and swimming hole. Wear appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle. Children and pets are welcome (pets on leash only).
