Location: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

Complete Description:
Rice Design Alliance (RDA) kicks off their annual fall lecture series. This year’s focus is Getting High: Towers in Architecture, and again includes a lineup of internationally renowned architects and designers. Established and emerging architects worldwide are rethinking vertical buildings. Though an often-disparaged building type, vertical buildings have fostered innovation in design, construction, program, and ideas of social order for over a hundred years. Now, the high-rise is going green and its density promotes urban patterns of sustainability and efficient energy use. By highlighting the most innovative practices and concentrating on architectural design at such a significant scale, this lecture series will explore broader issues at both global and local levels. Topics will include competitiveness through innovation and the impact of the current economic climate on future skylines of the world.
