Urban Harvest Fruit Tree Sale at Rice University Stadium Concourse

Posted on Friday 19 December 2008

URBAN HARVEST FRUIT TREE SALE
Date: January 17, 2009 – rain or shine
Time: 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Location: Rice U. Football Stadium Concourse, Greenbrier at Rice & UniversityContact: www.urbanharvest.orgComplete Description:

Big announcement – the Urban Harvest fruit tree sale will be at Rice University on the stadium concourse this year, and everyone will be out of the rain, on dry ground, and in a very large space. This means there will be many more fruit trees from which to choose and extra elbow room to make shopping more comfortable. Shoppers will be out of the weather and you can park your car right at the stadium. What a great change and what an opportunity!

Winter is the time to buy and plant most fruit trees, and it is when growers have trees ready for purchase. Houston’s climate is ideal for oranges, lemons, grapefruit, kumquats, tangerines, limes, persimmons, apples, pears, figs, grapes, blackberries, blueberries, peaches, apricots, plums, pecans, jujubes, olives and pomegranates; as well as a host of semi-tropical fruit trees such as avocados, Cherry of the Rio Grande, dragon fruit, guava, grumichama, longan and star fruit. Most require almost full sun each day, while citrus and blackberries require only half a day of sun.

Urban Harvest holds an annual fruit tree sale with an abundance of excellent varieties that work exceptionally well for our area. Knowledgeable volunteers will help you select your trees. More information about tree varieties and care can be found at the Urban Harvest website.

Presale classes provide specific information on each variety offered at the sale as well as planting and care. A wealth of information is shared at this class that will help you select just the right trees for you.
